James F. Duffy Jr., 79, Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- James F. Duffy Jr., of Poughkeepsie, died on Nov. 10. He was 79.

He was born in Brooklyn, the son of James F. Sr. and Agnes Duffy. He was educated in Brooklyn schools and completed technical training through IBM, where he started his career in 1957. He worked at IBM as a field engineer in Brooklyn/Staten Island until 1974, when he moved to Poughkeepsie, continuing at IBM as a programmer. He remained at IBM for 35 years, retiring in 1992. While working at IBM, he also served in the U.S. Navy as Petty Officer 1st Class, E6 for 20 years, retiring in 1997. Enlisting in the Navy at the age of 37 was one of his highest accomplishments. 

Duffy and his wife started a family in Staten Island before moving to Poughkeepsie to raise their two children. In 2003, they moved to Rensselaer to be closer to their grandchildren. There, he enjoyed sitting out on the front porch with friends and family. 

He is survived by his children, Jim Duffy and wife Sandy Duffy, Trish Weber and husband Victor Weber; and grandchildren Jim, Kevin, Michael and Elizabeth. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Noreene Duffy. 

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wm. G. Miller & Son Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
